Dynamo Cruise Past Locomotive FC 4-1 in U.S. Open Cup Round of 32

Houston Dynamo FC put together a dominant home performance Wednesday night, defeating Locomotive FC 4-1 in the Round of 32 of the U.S. Open Cup to advance to the next stage of the tournament.
The Dynamo wasted no time electrifying the home crowd, opening the scoring just two minutes into the match. Ondřej Lingr delivered a spectacular bicycle kick finish off an assist from Nick Markanich, giving Houston an early 1-0 advantage and setting the tone for the night.
Houston maintained control throughout the first half, taking their one goal lead into the break while limiting Locomotive FC’s opportunities going forward.
The second half began with another quick strike from the Dynamo. In the 46th minute, Mateusz Bogusz found the back of the net to double Houston’s lead and put the visitors under immediate pressure.
The hosts continued to press, and in the 58th minute Nick Markanich added Houston’s third goal after being set up by Héctor Herrera. The veteran midfielder’s vision and delivery helped extend the lead to 3-0 and all but put the match out of reach.
Locomotive FC found a response in the 75th minute when the Houston native Roberto Avila scored to make it 3-1, briefly giving the visitors hope of a late push.
That momentum was short-lived, however, as the Dynamo answered five minutes later. Bogusz turned provider in the 80th minute, assisting Ezequiel Ponce for Houston’s fourth and final goal of the night to seal an amazing 4-1 victory.
It was a complete performance from the Dynamo, highlighted by Lingr’s stunning opening bicycle kick and strong attacking contributions from Markanich, Herrera, and Bogusz.
With the win, Houston moves on in the U.S. Open Cup and continues its pursuit of tournament silverware.
