HOUSTON (Feb. 22, 2025) – Houston Dynamo FC kicked off their 2025 MLS season in rainy, 45-degree weather at Shell Energy Stadium, battling FC Dallas in the season-opening Texas Derby. Despite an early lead, the Dynamo fell 2-1 in front of 18,623 fans.

The Dynamo struck first in the 18th minute, as Amine Bassi found the back of the net after a well-placed cross from Griffin Dorsey was redirected by Ezequiel Ponce. However, FC Dallas equalized in the 55th minute when Petar Musacapitalized on a loose ball at the top of the box. The visitors then secured the win in the 76th minute, with Anderson Julio finishing off a quick counterattack following a collision outside Houston’s penalty area.
Key Moments & Player Debuts
Jack McGlynn made his Dynamo debut and recorded his 100th MLS regular season appearance, nearly scoring in both the 6th and 73rd minutes, with the latter hitting the woodwork.
Nico Lodeiro made his Houston debut after signing earlier this week.
Femi Awodesu, a homegrown talent from Dynamo 2, earned his MLS debut after signing with the first team.
Erik Dueñas also made his Dynamo debut after joining in January.

Despite challenging conditions with rain showers throughout the night, Houston created several chances, including a near goal from Ponce in the 50th minute, but ultimately couldn’t find the equalizer.
