In a dramatic, back-and-forth contest that needed extra time to decide a winner, the Louisville Kings edged the Houston Gamblers 24–22 on Thursday night at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston.

The game unfolded as a tale of shifting momentum, with both teams delivering strong stretches on either side of halftime before the Kings ultimately prevailed in overtime.

Louisville struck first, putting up 3 points in the opening quarter, but Houston quickly responded to keep things level early. The Kings found their rhythm in the second quarter, exploding for 13 points to take a 16–6 lead into halftime and seize control of the game.

However, the Gamblers came out of the locker room with renewed energy. Houston dominated the third quarter, scoring 16 unanswered points to flip the game on its head and take a 22–16 lead. Their surge was fueled by a balanced offensive attack and improved execution, putting the Kings on their heels heading into the final period.

Louisville answered in the fourth quarter with a crucial touchdown, tying the game at 22–22 and forcing overtime after both teams failed to add further points in regulation’s closing minutes.

In the extra period, the Kings managed to secure the decisive score while holding Houston off the scoreboard, sealing a hard-fought 24–22 victory on the road.

Quarterback play told two different stories in the matchup. Houston’s Taulia Tagovailoa was limited through the air, finishing with 64 passing yards, while Louisville’s Jason Bean led the Kings with 192 passing yards despite throwing one interception. Bean also contributed on the ground, adding 20 rushing yards.

Houston found success in the run game behind Marcus Yarns, who delivered an impressive performance with 111 rushing yards on just eight carries, including a touchdown. His explosiveness was a key factor in the Gamblers’ third-quarter comeback.

In the passing game, Justin Hall led Houston receivers with four catches for 44 yards, while Louisville’s JaVonta Payton recorded three receptions for 46 yards to pace the Kings.

Defensively, both teams showed resilience throughout the contest, but Louisville’s ability to make timely stops, particularly in overtime, proved to be the difference. The Kings’ defense tightened when it mattered most, preventing Houston from completing their comeback.

The result marks a significant road win for Louisville, showcasing their composure under pressure and ability to execute in critical moments. For Houston, the loss will sting after a strong second-half effort that nearly secured victory.

In a game defined by swings in momentum and late-game drama, the Kings ultimately did just enough to walk away with a 24–22 overtime win.
