MAFC Advances After Penalty Shootout Win Over Brownsville in UPSL Round of 16

MAFC secured their place in the UPSL Quarterfinals after a dramatic 5–4 penalty shootout victory over Brownsville, following a 2–2 draw after regulation and extra time in the Round of 16.

MAFC set the tone early, controlling possession and applying pressure from the opening whistle. Their efforts were rewarded in the first half when #13 opened the scoring, giving MAFC a 1–0 lead at halftime after a composed and disciplined opening 45 minutes.

Momentum continued in MAFC’s favor in the second half as they extended the lead to 2–0, putting themselves in a strong position in the knockout contest. However, Brownsville mounted a late comeback, finding two goals to level the match and force the game into extra time.

The additional 30 minutes were played at a high tempo, with both sides pushing for a decisive goal as fatigue set in. Despite several tense moments and defensive stands on both ends, neither team was able to break the deadlock, sending the match to penalties.

From the spot, MAFC held their nerve. After a tense shootout, MAFC converted five penalties to Brownsville’s four, sealing the win and advancing to the UPSL Quarterfinals in front of a charged atmosphere.
