The 2025 season opener at Ray Maddry Memorial Stadium delivered all the intensity of Friday night football, as the Channelview Falcons and Pasadena Memorial Mavericks battled through four quarters of momentum swings and big plays. In the end, Pasadena Memorial pulled off a dramatic 22-19 victory, scoring in the final minutes to stun the Falcons.

The Mavericks struck first in the opening quarter, converting on a 4th down with a 20-yard rushing touchdown from #8 Logan Johnson to take a 7-0 lead. Channelview responded in the second quarter with quarterback Rod Buckler (#11)connecting on a deep pass to set up a short touchdown run by #5 Darius Myles, tying the game at 7-7. Pasadena answered quickly with a red-zone rushing score to go back up 14-7, but Buckler showcased his arm again, hitting #9 on a 45-yard strike. A missed PAT left Channelview trailing 14-13 at halftime.

The Falcons grabbed momentum in the third quarter when their defense came up huge — returning a fumble 55 yards for a touchdown to surge ahead 19-14. Despite missed opportunities on offense, Channelview held that lead heading into the final frame.

Pasadena Memorial refused to back down. With just over a minute remaining, the Mavericks powered in a 7-yard rushing touchdown, then converted a critical two-point try to go up 22-19. Channelview had one last chance, driving deep into Memorial territory in the closing seconds. Buckler’s apparent touchdown pass was called back for penalties, and time ran out before the Falcons could attempt the game-tying field goal.

The heartbreaking loss drops Channelview to 0-1, but the Falcons showed grit and explosiveness on both sides of the ball. Pasadena Memorial starts its season 1-0 after a resilient road performance.
