Houston Dynamo 2 played San Jose Earthquakes II to a 1-1 draw Wednesday night at SaberCats Stadium, with San Jose claiming the additional point after a 5-3 victory in the penalty shootout.

The result gave Dynamo 2 one point in the MLS NEXT Pro standings, while San Jose earned two after converting five of its penalty attempts to Houston’s three.

Dynamo 2 entered the match looking to rebound after suffering a 2-0 loss to Ventura County FC five days earlier, a result that ended Houston’s nine-game unbeaten run at home. Against San Jose, Houston found itself in another closely contested match, but neither side was able to pull away during regulation. The teams remained level at 1-1 after 90 minutes, sending the match to a shootout to determine who would take the extra point.

San Jose converted all five of its attempts. Houston made three of its five attempts, allowing the Earthquakes II to leave Houston with the additional point. Despite the result, Dynamo 2 remains in the Western Conference playoff picture as the regular season enters its final stretch.

Dynamo 2 will now turn its attention to the remainder of the regular season as it continues its push toward the MLS NEXT Pro playoffs.
