Houston Dynamo FC continued their preseason preparations with an impressive 3-0 victory over Honduran powerhouse C.D. Olimpia on Saturday evening. A brace from Mateusz Bogusz and a goal from defender Franco Negri highlighted a complete team performance that saw Houston control the match from start to finish.
While preseason results are primarily about building chemistry and evaluating the squad, the Dynamo showed encouraging signs on both sides of the ball. Houston dictated possession, defended with discipline, and looked dangerous every time they pushed forward, giving supporters plenty of reasons to be optimistic ahead of the upcoming season.
The Dynamo wasted little time asserting themselves. From the opening whistle, Houston moved the ball confidently through midfield, creating space with quick passing sequences and intelligent movement off the ball. Their patience was rewarded when attacking midfielder Mateusz Bogusz opened the scoring, finishing off a well-worked attacking move to give the Dynamo an early advantage.
The goal settled Houston into the match, and they continued to press forward rather than protecting the lead. Olimpia struggled to establish any rhythm as Houston's midfield consistently disrupted passing lanes while the defense remained organized whenever called upon.
Houston doubled its advantage before halftime through an unexpected source. Defender Franco Negri made an excellent run into the box and volleyed to finish and make it 2-0. The goal reflected the confidence Ben Olsen's side played with throughout the evening, as players across the field contributed to the attack instead of relying solely on the front line.
Holding a comfortable lead, Houston maintained its intensity after the break. Rather than sitting back, the Dynamo continued controlling possession and limiting Olimpia's opportunities to create meaningful chances.
Bogusz capped off his outstanding performance with his second goal of the night, sealing the 3-0 victory. The attacking midfielder once again displayed his quality in the final third, finding space before finishing confidently to put the match beyond reach. His movement, vision, and composure were on full display, making him the standout performer of the evening.
Equally impressive was Houston's defensive effort. The Dynamo back line stayed compact throughout the match, denying Olimpia clear scoring opportunities and earning a deserved clean sheet. The team's defensive organization complemented its attacking quality, resulting in one of the club's most complete preseason performances to date.
Saturday's friendly also provided another valuable opportunity for Head Coach Ben Olsen to continue evaluating his squad ahead of the regular season. Beyond the scoreline, Houston demonstrated improved chemistry, effective pressing, and fluid ball movement qualities that will be crucial once competitive matches begin.
With contributions coming from multiple areas of the field and another confident defensive display, the Dynamo appear to be building momentum at the right time. While preseason victories don't determine future success, performances like this help establish confidence and reinforce the team's identity before the campaign officially gets underway.
For Houston supporters, there was plenty to enjoy. Bogusz's brace showcased his attacking ability, Negri's goal highlighted the team's willingness to involve defenders in the attack, and the clean sheet reflected a disciplined collective effort. Most importantly, the Dynamo looked cohesive, confident, and prepared to continue their progression as the season approaches.
