Porter Spoils Memorial’s Homecoming with 21–20 Comeback Win
The New Caney Porter Spartans spoiled the Memorial Mustangs’ Homecoming night with a gritty 21–20 comeback victory on Thursday.
Memorial came out strong, feeding off the energy of the home crowd to build a 17–7 halftime lead. Fans were treated to a spirited Homecoming atmosphere at the break, with both school bands performing at halftime to keep the stadium buzzing
But the second half belonged to Porter. The Spartans clawed their way back, capitalizing on key possessions and defensive stops to erase the deficit. The defining moment came late in the fourth quarter when Zach Boudreaux sealed the win with a clutch interception, stopping Memorial’s final drive and silencing the home crowd.
For Memorial, it was a tough loss after leading for much of the night, especially on such a special occasion. Still, the Mustangs showed flashes of promise that they can build on as the season progresses.
Porter, now 2–0 after last week’s 44–20 win over Galena Park, proved they can win in more than one way — flashing offensive firepower in Week 1 and rallying with resilience in Week 2.
The Spartans left Memorial’s field with momentum, while the Mustangs will look to bounce back and turn the Homecoming disappointment into fuel for the weeks ahead.
