HOUSTON (March 2, 2025) — Houston Dynamo FC fell 4-1 to Inter Miami CF at Shell Energy Stadium, suffering their second consecutive loss to open the season. Despite a late goal from midfielder Nico Lodeiro, the home side was outmatched by a Miami team led by Luis Suárez and Telasco Segovia.
Inter Miami wasted no time, taking the lead in the sixth minute when Suárez collected a loose ball in the box and set up Segovia, who slotted the ball into the bottom right corner. The visitors doubled their lead in the 37th minute after Tadeo Allende weaved into the box and fired a shot into the top left corner. Houston’s struggles deepened in first-half stoppage time when Segovia struck again, finishing from close range to make it 3-0 at halftime.
Houston nearly pulled one back in the 61st minute when Ezequiel Ponce’s header found the back of the net, but the goal was ruled offside. Miami sealed the result in the 79th minute when Suárez added his name to the scoresheet with a well-placed shot past Andrew Tarbell.
The Dynamo finally got their moment in the 85th minute when Erik Dueñas delivered a through ball to Lodeiro, who lifted the ball over the Miami goalkeeper for his first goal in orange. It was little more than a consolation for Houston, who struggled to break down Miami’s defensive structure throughout the night.
The Dynamo will look to bounce back on the road as they travel to face reigning MLS Cup champions Columbus Crew SC on Saturday, March 8, with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m. CT.
