VOLT LEAGUE 1 – MATCHDAY 20 PREVIEW
VOLT LEAGUE 1 – MATCHDAY 20 PREVIEW
As Volt League 1 heads into Matchday 20 of 22, the landscape has shifted dramatically. With Fuego SL officially withdrawn from the league, the playoff picture has sharpened—and the race for the 2025 Houston Super Cup has taken center stage for clubs outside the top six.
Here’s how Matchday 20 is shaping up:
Saturday, May 17 – Field 1
🔹 6:00 PM – AC Juniors (4th, 36 pts) vs University of Houston (6th, 32 pts)
With their playoff spot now officially secured due to Fuego’s exit, AC Juniors can shift focus to seeding. UofH, nearly locked in themselves, is aiming to make it official with a win. They’ve been in strong form and will look to keep momentum heading into the postseason.
🔹 8:00 PM – Longhorn FC vs Houston United
Both sides are eliminated from playoff contention—but the stakes are far from low. The fight for 7th place and a ticket to the 2025 Houston Super Cup is real. Longhorn and Houston United will treat this like a cup final. Expect emotion, pride, and maybe some surprises.
Sunday, May 18 – Field 1
🔹 6:00 PM – Ghost Town (2nd, 45 pts) vs Little United (3rd, 37 pts)
This is a top-tier showdown between playoff-bound clubs. Ghost Town is still eyeing the regular season title, while Little United now plays with the confidence of a team already in. It’s also a tone-setter for potential playoff matchups ahead. Fireworks are likely.
🔹 8:00 PM – Vinotinto HTX vs Houstonians FC
This one matters. Vinotinto is eliminated from the playoffs, but Houstonians FC still have a narrow path to 6th—and a clearer shot at locking up 7th and a Super Cup invite. It’s must-win territory for Houstonians. Vinotinto would love nothing more than to spoil the run.
Top of the Table – After Matchday 19:
Playoff Status Update:
Clinched: MAFC, Ghost Town, Little United, AC Juniors
Likely: University of Houston (95% chance)
Contending: Houstonians FC (needs to win out + help)
Eliminated from playoffs: Vinotinto HTX, Longhorn FC, Houston United FC
But still in the race for 7th (Super Cup Invite): Houstonians, Vinotinto, Longhorn, Houston United
The storylines may have shifted, but the stakes are still sky-high. Whether it’s playoff seeding or a shot at the Super Cup, Matchday 20 is full of meaning.
